Dr. Laquita C. Blockson is the Assistant Professor of Ethics and Entrepreneurship at the College of Charleston’s School of Business and Economics. She earned her doctorate in Business Ethics and Public Policy from the University of Pittsburgh. She earned both her baccalaureate and master degrees in Business Administration from Florida A&M University’s School of Business & Industry. Before joining the College of Charleston faculty, she taught at Florida International University and the University of Northern Iowa.
Dr. Blockson, whose studies appear in Business & Society and the Annals of Political and Social Science, conducts research on ethics in entrepreneurship, minority-owned businesses, social entrepreneurship, and urban economic development. She is a co-investigator of a Kauffman Foundation-funded study regarding the success and growth factors of African-American women-led entrepreneurial ventures, and a lead investigator of a study examining the challenges faced by Caucasian and minority women business owners.
Dr. Blockson is a business/organizational ethics expert as well as an entrepreneurship and urban economic development scholar. She has extensive experience facilitating workshops for and providing guidance to community development corporations, executive education programs, affiliates of national nonprofit organizations, and aspiring minority/women business owners.
Dr. Blockson is a member of the Academy of Management, the International Association for Business and Society, the Society for Business Ethics, the Southern Management Association, the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Management Faculty of Color Association. Before pursuing the doctorate, she worked for Taco Bell Corporation, AT&T, and LG&E Energy Corporation. She is also a former member of the Board of Examiners for the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program.
